CA District Dashboard (Goal 4):
CORE Waiver: Four Year Cohort Graduation Rate
Numerator: Total graduates in prior year
Denominator: Prior year graduation class 4 year cohort
Notes:

The calculation of the "Graduation Rate" subelement is based on the number of most recent graduates:

  • in a four year cohort who earned a high school diploma or passed the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE)
  • divided by the number first-time 9th graders in the fall four years prior,
  • plus students who transfer in,
  • minus students who transfer out, emigrate, or die at some point during the four school years prior to graduation.

Students are tracked via the CALPADS information system based on student enrollment data submitted in October of each year.

Hypothetical:  If a base year 9th grader transfers to another district over the course of the four years and still graduates on time, that student does not count against the previous district's graduation rate.

On-campus suspension instances per 100
Numerator: Total on-campus suspension instances per 100
Denominator: Total students (PS-12)
Notes: This measure is calculated by 1) taking the total number of suspensions among a certain group and dividing it by the number of students of that group enrolled and then 2) multiplying the resulting value by 100

Counts suspension instances belonging to each SPIncidentID from ATLAS.
For example: one event (Incident) can have multiple students involved. Each student suspended is an suspension instance. Therefore, students can appear multiple times if they have more than 1 suspension in the Academic Year.

Numerator: Percentage of students who score 'college ready' for higher education in Smarter Balance test
Denominator:
Notes: Calculated as the number and percentage of 11th grade students scoring both 'Ready for English' and 'Ready for Math' on the Early Assessment Program (EAP). Prior to the 2014-15 school year the EAP score was derived from the CST with additional questions. In math, only 11th grade students who had already completed Algebra II or higher were eligible to participate in the EAP. For the 2014-2015 school year the EAP readiness score is derived from the SBAC for those students scoring 'Exceed Standards' in both Math and English. Starting with the 2014-2015 school year all 11th grade students now participate in the EAP math assessment. The results of the 2016-2017 SBAC assessment should be available late August 2017.

KSEP: Kindergarten students scoring 'Ready to Go' based on overall rating
Numerator: Number and percentage of Kindergarten students scoring 'Ready to Go' based on overall rating on KSEP
Denominator: All Kindergarten students who took the test in the current school year
Notes: Effective 2016-2017 school year FUSD assessment council is recommending that the district no longer administers KSEP

The Kindergarten Student Entrance Profile (KSEP) is part of a local education initiative called the Fresno Area STRIVE Roadmap to Success. The assessment uses 13 indicators to test children’s social-emotional and academic readiness for school. Examples include a child’s ability to recognize their written name and the ability to continue with a task after experiencing difficulty. Teachers use the first few weeks of school to interact face-to-face with kids in the classroom to determine if they are ready for kindergarten, and then they complete KSEP reports. Based on the outcome of the report, the student is placed into one of four categories: ready to go, needs quarterly monitoring, needs monthly monitoring or needs immediate follow up.

Number and percentage of unique students who are engaged in any Goal 2 activities (Activities, Arts or Athletics)
Numerator: Number of unique students who are engaged in any goal 2 activities
Denominator: Total number of unique students where Goal 2 activities have been entered
Notes:

The calculation of the "Overall Student Participation" subelement is based on the total number of students engaged in arts, activities, and athletics.  The data from this indicator is pulled from the ATLAS Engagement Tool.  Student Engagement (Goal 2) participation information is entered into the ATLAS Engagement by Campus Culture Directors with the assistance of appropriate school staff and is defined as:

  • After school athletics sponsored by a certificated employee;
  • Music and/or arts classes sponsored by a certificated employee offered in FUSD; and
  •  During/after school activities sponsored by a certificated employee (such as clubs)

Activities can be counted as either one-time or ongoing:

  • One-time Goal 2 activities are those in which there is no schedule for repeat participation.  These would include events such as dances, enrichment study trips, etc.; or
  • Ongoing Goal 2 activities are those in which there is a schedule for repeat participation.  These would include events such as athletics, art classes, and clubs in which there is more than one meeting scheduled.  It is important to note that there are several ways a student can be excluded from this ongoing criteria.
    • If a student is participating in one or more ongoing Goal 2 activities and has not met a 50% attendance threshold
    • If a student has been given an inactive status in the ATLAS engagement tool by a Goal 2 sponsor due to academic ineligibility
ATLAS Goal 2 tracking system created in 2013 and excludes some populations like adult education and continuation schools

On 5/25/17 a one-time change to VAPA and Athletics was made to supplement a technical process gap for the 16-17 school year. For the 17-18 School year it is expected that there will be quick guides and professional learning opportunities available to close gap. Going forward Goal 2 engagement and attendance will be necessary to be taken for it to be counted in this indicator.

Career Technical Education (CTE) Courses

Fresno Unified offers more than 130 CTE courses such as Introduction to Technology at the middle school level and Applied Medical Sciences at the high school level that empower students to make meaningful career choices by providing opportunities to explore their interests, develop career skills, and reinforce academics. These courses also offer a wide range of additional educational benefits, including college credit for qualifying courses through the dual enrollment process, industry certification, and internships.  CTE courses can be embedded in Linked Learning Pathways and in California Partnership Academies (CPA) or offered as a stand-alone course experience.  The Guide to Courses provides a brief description of all high school CTE courses offered in the District and designates a-g designation and which site(s) the course is offered.

Thus, prior school years are listed as N/A. This includes all subject areas in the Elementary grades and is reflective of all grading periods. This means if a student received at least one D or F during the school year (e.g. at the quarter or semester), he/she will be reflected in this count.

Notes:

The calculation of the "A-G Rate" sub-element is based on the percentage of graduates who completed A-G requirements.

Graduates are students who exited FUSD with the following withdrawal codes:

  • 43- Passed the High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE)
  • 45- Midyear graduate
  • 90- Graduate
  • 92-Graduate - SPED CAHSEE exemption or waiver

Denominator will not be finalized until October with CALPADS submission to California Department of Education - this estimate is based off of indicator 5862

The University of California (UC) and the California State University (CSU) require that students complete a specific pattern of 15 "a-g" college-preparatory courses in the "a-g" subject areas.  To satisfy a subject requirement, students must attain a "C" or better in each A-G course (A-G Guide Source)

This score will be used by colleges and universities to determine if they will grant students credit for what they have already learned, or allow them to skip the equivalent course once they get to college (this is known as advanced placement). The score is a weighted combination of scores on the multiple-choice section and on the free-response section. The final score is reported on a 5-point scale as follows: 5 = extremely well qualified 4 = well qualified 3 = qualified 2 = possibly qualified 1 = no recommendation "Qualified" means that students have proven themselves capable of doing the work of an introductory-level course in a particular subject at college. Many colleges and universities grant credit and placement for AP exam scores of 3, 4 or 5
